The Lotus Exige Sport 350’s captivating supercar good looks possess more than a hint of old-school classicism, while remaining thoroughly modern. While this head-turning vehicle’s appearance is most certainly worthy of comment, the fact that is also extremely fast is undoubtedly its most appealing quality.
The car’s beguiling contours, while appealing to behold, have actually been carefully designed to optimise the vehicle’s aerodynamic qualities and maximise downforce. In tandem with the liberal use of carbon fibre materials (a matte-black front splitter and rear wing, for example), this helps the Exige Sport 350 achieve its breathtaking acceleration. The vehicle rides on 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels (front and rear, respectively), which are fitted with ultra-grip Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. If you prefer, this super-quick two-door coupé is also available in open-top form.
This two-person sports car features all-black sports seats that are adorned with part-leather facings. The sporty theme continues throughout the cockpit, with, for instance, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and striking polished-aluminium gear knob. The latter sits atop an exposed gearshift mechanism, one of many examples of the Exige Sport 350’s stripped-down aesthetic.
A road vehicle that is always ready for the track, the Exige Sport 350 has been described by Top Gear as “one of the world’s best-handling cars.” It’s pretty nifty too, thanks in no small part to its 3.5-litre V6 engine. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox (automatic transmission is available as an option), this supercharged unit puts out 345bhp and delivers a peak torque of 400Nm. This enables the car to leap from 0-60mph in only 3.7 seconds – and it is also capable of a maximum speed of 170mph.
The Exige Sport 350 is fitted with a range of race-tuned driver aids, such as Anti-lock Braking System, which has been developed specifically by Bosch and Lotus. Hydraulic Brake Assist features too, providing an automatic boost to braking power, whenever it’s required. Also included is Cornering Brake Control, which also utilises braking force, this time whenever the car turns into a bend. Both driver and passenger are provided with airbags, and the vehicle is secured by an engine immobiliser and remote-activated alarm system.
